MEETING MINUTES

APRIL 19, 2001

CARNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

 


Meeting called to order at 7:15 p.m. 

 

Officers present:  President Mike Rupp, Vice President Meg O'Hare, Secretary Marilyn Ryan, Treasurer Mary Eck, and Sergeant at Arms Tim Caslin.

Officer absent:  Recording Secretary  Joanne Krause.

 


Minutes:

 

Minutes of the March 15, 2001 meeting were read by Meg O'Hare.  One correction - under Announcements - next meeting April 19.  Terry Sollanek moved to approve the minutes as corrected.  Motion was seconded and passed.

 


Treasurer's Report:

 

Treasurer's report was given by Mary Eck.  Previous balance was $595.87.  Income and expenses for the month were announced, leaving a current balance of $553.37.

 

Committee Reports:

    

A.     Veterans Memorial - Terry Sollanek reported that he has been in contact with Sunrise Construction and continues to seek information regarding design, etc.  Suggestion made to contact county technical high schools.  Boy Scouts have agreed to make benches.

 

B.     Membership - Mary Eck reported that new membership cards are now available from the

Secretary.  Letters are being sent to those whose membership has expired.  Everyone is

           encouraged to seek new members. 

 

C.     Zoning - Tim Caslin reported that no further information has been obtained regarding the construction of a Walgreens store.  No permit has been issued as of April 18.  Delegate Jim Ports would like CIA and Walgreens reps to meet.

 

     D.  Fundraising -  The Tragesers are looking into some future activities.  Flea market and/or raffle  

           of  a bushel of crabs and a case of beverage are possibilities.  Bobby Phillips offered to

           Donate soda.

   

E.     Scholarship - No committee yet.

 


Unfinished Business:

 

Easter Egg Hunt - Huge success!  620 eggs were gone in 5 minutes.  Suggestions were discussed for next year - more eggs, separate hunts for age groups, adults not permitted in hunt area, time, etc.  Thanks were extended to the businesses that contributed in any way, to the Easter Bunny (Amy), and many special thanks to Joyce and Chip Trageser.  It was announced that the Wood

Working Club at Oak Crest Village will make a large display egg for next year's hunt (and possibly something for our Santa visit).

 

Carney Road - The hearing was held regarding operation of a business.  The limos are gone and the owner has 90 days to remove the office operation from the site.  Fine of $1000 was waived.

 

Newsletter - Materials have been forwarded to Mary Sue Rooney.

 

Joppa Road Corridor Study - Planner for this area says that no meetings have been scheduled yet.

 

Traffic - Contact with Capt. Russo continues.  However, we need to start concentrating more on

Traffic Engineering as we realize the constraints of the Police Department.

 


New Business:

 

Perry Hall Fair is scheduled for July 7 at the high school.  Volunteers will be needed to man our booth.  Ideas for materials to have at the booth should be forwarded to Mike.

Community Conservation Conference will be held May 19 at Towson University.  Mike Rupp moved that $48 be approved to send four representatives to the Conference.  Motion was seconded and passed.

 

Mike Rupp moved to expend up to $60 for awards for outstanding service during the past year.  Motion was seconded and approved.

 

Bobby Phillips noted increased trash along Magledt Road.  CIA will check regarding responsibility of property owners.

 

Carney Elementary School was vandalized again.  CIA will check with the administration to see if we can help increase security.

 


Closing Activity:

 

Pat Sollanek won the 50-50 and will use the funds to place an ad for the association.

 


Announcements:

 

The next and final meeting prior to the summer break will be held May 17.

 

There are now ads on the web page.  The association could realize a small income.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:23 p.m.
