MEETING MINUTES

March 21, 2002

CARNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 


Meeting called to order at  7:25 p.m. with  20  members present.

  Officers present were  President Chip Trageser, Vice President Romi Shah, Recording Secretary Joanne Krause, and Sergeant at Arms Meg O'Hare.  Secretary Marilyn Ryan and Treasurer Mary Eck were absent.

  Our guest was Doug Riley, former County Councilman, now a candidate for County Executive. 

  Minutes of previous meeting read by Recording Secretary Joanne Krause.   Two corrections were made.  Motion to approve minutes was made by  Mike Rupp and seconded by Joyce Trageser. Motion approved.

  There was no Treasurer's report.  Mary Eck has resigned as Treasurer due to ill health.  Financial records have been returned.  A new Treasurer is needed.

 


Committee Reports:

 

A.            Veterans Memorial:  Terry Sollanek reported that donations are being received for the memorial bricks.  There has been a delay in having the plaque refurbished.  Mr. Sollanek is looking for someone locally to do it instead of having it sent away.  He was advised that the county grant has not been presented to the Board of Estimates even though he had been told it was approved.  He is lining up participants for the dedication ceremony. 

  B.            Membership:  Mile Rupp is working on updating the membership list. 

  C.        Zoning:  Meg O'Hare was unable to attend the Greenhouse Place Development Review Committee meeting on March 18, but Ruth Baisden, GPCC, did and she reported that the development refinement requested has been tabled until the developer can meet with community representatives.  No date was scheduled.

 


Unfinished Business:

 

Work is continuing on amending the constitution and by-laws.  It may be completed by the next general meeting.

 

There will be an advisory meeting on April 9, 2002 to review plans for the Harford Road streetscaping project.

 

The Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m.  Volunteers are to meet at 11 a.m.  to set up. 

 


New Business:

 

Chip Trageser, representative for the CIA, Ruth Baisden, representative for the GPCC, and Joyce Trageser, representative for COBRA, attended a meeting to restart the Joppa Road corridor study.  There will be a kick-off meeting Thursday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at Christus Victor Lutheran Church, 9833 Harford Road.

  President Trageser announced that a dance sponsored by the Parents Club of St. Ursula Troop 26 is being held Saturday, April 20, to benefit a three-year old with a form of childhood cancer.  A motion was made by Mike Rupp, seconded by Pat Rooney, for the CIA to donate $25.00.  Motion passed.

  The construction of Walgreen's is proceeding.  The CIA learned the State was permitting one entrance/exit off Harford Road.

  Justin Wandres asked that the CIA petition traffic engineering officials for a blinking light in front of Carney Elementary which would operate only when school is in session.

  Mike Rupp made a motion to open up the nomination for Treasurer and nominated Ann Briggeman.  Motion seconded by Joyce Trageser.  Motion passed.

  Doug Riley, candidate for County Executive, spoke about his reasons for running.  He noted his past experience as a County Councilman.  He spoke about the issues of concern to him and the community and how he would address them.

 


Closing Activity:

 

Romi Shah donated his winnings of $20.00 to the association.

 


Announcements:

 

The next meeting is April 18, 2002.
