CARNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Meeting called to order at 7:12 p.m..
Officers present: President Mike Rupp, Vice President Meg O'Hare, Secretary Marilyn Ryan, and Treasurer Mary Eck.
Officers absent: Recording Secretary Joanne Krause and Sergeant at Arms Tim Caslin.
Guests: Delegates Al Redmer and Jim Ports.
Minutes:
Minutes of the April 19, 2001 meeting were read by Meg O'Hare. Pat Sollanek moved to approve the minutes as read. Motion was seconded and passed.
Treasurer's Report:
Treasurer's report was given by Mary Eck. Previous balance was $553.37, deposits for the month $35, expenses for the month $171.64, leaving a current balance of $416.73. The
treasurer's report was filed for audit.
Committee Reports:
A. Veterans Memorial - Terry Sollanek reported on continuing progress to have the memorial erected on the Carney School property.
B. Membership - Mary Eck reported that letters have been sent to those whose membership has expired. Current membership cards are available from the secretary. Everyone was encouraged to take application forms and distribute them to neighbors.
C. Zoning - No new information was available.
D. Fundraising - Fall raffle was discussed. A bushel of crabs and a case of beverage was
decided upon. Tickets will be available for the Perry Hall and Parkville Fairs.
Unfinished Business:
Newsletter - Mary Sue Rooney is gathering materials and will begin with a quarterly publication.
Joppa Road Corridor Study - Still no information regarding an organizational meeting.
Traffic - President Rupp is working on a report to summarize identified problems, what has been done, and problems that continue.
Community Conservation Conference - Reservations were submitted too late for official representation. Justin Wandres will try to stop in for a short period of time.
Perry Hall Fair - The fair will be held at the high school on July 7. Volunteers are needed to man the booth.
New Business:
The Parkville Fair will be held September 9 from 11 to 6. Volunteers will be needed to man our booth.
President Rupp will look into obtaining grants to address safety issues.
Harry Updegraff spoke of continuing traffic problems in the 9500 block of Orbitan Road and at Upton Road and Walther Blvd. He asked that they be included in the report being developed.
Pat Czerniewski reported on the Greenhouse project.
Ann Briggeman questioned offices and an apartment for the house next to High's on Joppa Road.
Comments:
Jim Ports congratulated the group for their efforts throughout the year and said he will continue to work with us in the future. He recognized the young ladies who answer the phones in his and Delegate Redmer's office for they are the ones that see that community concerns are addressed.

Volunteers of the year - Norma and Ann Briggeman
Members of the year - Joyce and Chip Trageser
Mike also thanked all who had helped this year with particular thanks to Delegates Redmer and Ports.
Mike reminded everyone that Carney is our home and challenged us to make it better. We need to work together, increase our membership, and involve the businesses in the community. The website will operate over the summer to keep everyone updated and ready for an even more successful year in 2001-2002.
Closing Activity:
Pat Czerniewski was the winner in the closing activity.
Announcements:
Pat Sollanek announced that there would be a Neighborhood Yard Sale (Upton, Glenside, Orbitan) on June 30 from 8 to 1.
The next meeting is scheduled for September 20, 2001.
