MEETING MINUTES

SEPTEMBER 20, 2001

CARNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL


 

Meeting called to order at  7:10 p.m.  

  Officers present:  President Mike Rupp, Secretary Marilyn Ryan, Treasurer Mary Eck, Recording Secretary Joanne Krause and Sergeant at Arms Tim Caslin.

  Officers absent:  Vice President Meg O'Hare.

  Guests:  Delegates Al Redmer and Jim Ports, Tim Bonner and Mike Bonner of Tim's Auto, and two representatives from Baltimore Gas and Electric.

  At this point in the meeting, a moment of silence was observed in memory of the tragic events of September 11, 2001.  President Rupp expressed his thoughts regarding the terrorist attack on our nation.

  Minutes of the meeting on May 17, 2001 were read by Marilyn Ryan.  A motion to approve minutes was made by Pat Sollanek and seconded by Pat Rooney.  Motion passed.

 


Treasurer's Report:                      

  Previous balance was $416.73

   Deposits were $102.00

   Expenses were $280.90         

  Current balance is $237.83    

 


At this point, Tim Bonner and Mike Bonner, of Tim's Auto, presented the group with their plans to open an automotive business at 3015 E. Joppa Road.  They propose to do auto repair only, no body or paint work.  They discussed various issues such as the number of employees expected, landscaping, fencing, parking slots, lighting, signage, overnight storage of autos, hours of operation, trash pickup and the installation of a water trap.  A zoning hearing is to be held September 26, 2001.  They are requesting two exceptions.

 

Also, there were two BGE representatives who presented  energy saving tips and addressed the State of California's recent power problems and how BGE learned from it.

 


Committee Reports:

 

A.            Veterans Memorial:  Terry Sollanek reported that school construction work will hold up the installation of the memorial.  A site plan is still needed.  It was suggested we could sell the bricks to be used around the memorial. 

 

B.            Membership:  Mary Eck still has some membership cards to deliver. 

 

C.        Zoning:  Tim Caslin reported the status of Walgreens is in limbo.  He noted a zoning hearing for 3015 E. Joppa Road  (Tim's Auto) is to be held September 26 at 2 p.m. and the one for 3106 Sixth Avenue (Mr. Escalante) to be held October 11 at 10 a.m.  The assisted living facility (Somerford Place) on Magledt Road is moot because financing could not be gotten. 

 

D.     Fundraising:  Joyce and Chip Trageser are working on ideas for the future.   


 

Unfinished Business:

 

Mary Sue Rooney said the newsletter should be ready by the end of September.  It is proposed that it be issued quarterly.

 

The Joppa Road corridor study has been tabled for now.

 

Parkville High's After Prom event sent us a certificate of appreciation for promoting/funding it.

 


New Business:

 

The MTA-sponsored quality community survey is to be held on September 30, from 2-6 p.m., at the Hunt Valley Inn.  The CIA is looking for attendees.

 

The 3rd Annual Holiday Treelighting is to be held December 9.  Volunteers are needed.

 


Nominations for officers was held with the following nominated and seconded:

Treasurer - Mary Eck

Recording Secretary - Joanne Krause

Sergeant at Arms - Tim Caslin

 

Nominations are open until October 18. Board members will be selected later.


Closing Activity:

 

John Grace of Aberdeen, MD  was the winner of the bushel of crabs and refreshments.

 

The winner of the silent auction was Mary Eck.  It was a framed photograph of the firemen raising the American flag at the site of the World Trade tragedy of September 11, 2001.  $250.00 was raised for the FDNY survivors fund and a check from our organization will be sent.
