MEETING MINUTES

APRIL 23, 2003

CARNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

Meeting called to order at  7 p.m. with  18 members present.

Officers present were  President Meg O'Hare, Vice President Romi Shah, Treasurer John Ryan, Secretary Marilyn Ryan, Recording Secretary Joanne Krause, and Sergeant at Arms Pat Rooney. 

Also present was Jennifer Przydzial, reporter for the Northeast Reporter.

Minutes of the March meeting were not available..

 


Treasurer's Report:                      

 

Balance as of January 1, 2003 was $1601.29

Receipts  were $272.00

Disbursements were $376.16

Balance as of April 23, 2003 is $1497.13

 

Copy of report has been filed for audit.

 


Committee Reports:

 

A.            Membership:   Romi Shah reported that an updated membership list is now computerized and will be distributed to the Officers and Board Members.  Membership renewal for next year will be April 15, 2004.  President O'Hare recommended we have a membership drive in conjunction with the community cleanup set for October.

 

B.         Zoning:  Ruth Baisden outlined the issues regarding the Honda dealership and 3023 East Avenue properties that were the subject of Zoning Commissioner Hearings in April.  A petition signed by 160 neighbors in the area was presented at the hearings.  The Zoning Commissioner's rulings are pending.  If necessary, Ruth Baisden suggested getting the People's Council involved. 

 

Regarding the Escalante property on Sixth Avenue, he is still operating  his business at that site in violation of the County Code.  County Code Enforcement is monitoring and documenting the situation.

 

Clyde Krause, who lives next to 9614 Harding Avenue, reports there are still code violations at this property and he presented photos documenting them.  It was suggested the Association write to the County addressing this issue.

 

Joe Antkowiak, a resident of 12th Avenue, is concerned  that the access road to the development being planned for 12th Avenue will not be accessible by the handicapped.  President O'Hare will contact the County's Americans with Disabilities Act representative on this issue.

 


Unfinished Business:

 

Regarding the Veterans Memorial, we are waiting for the benches which were to be supplied by the Boy Scouts.  Justin Wandres is to be contacted regarding the Scouts involvement in this project.

 

On May 14, 6:30-9 p.m., there will be an open-house meeting at Christus Victor Church, Harford Road, regarding the Joppa Road Corridor Study.  The Planning Commission hopes to have guidelines and recommendations ready before September.

 

The Easter Egg Hunt was a success.  President O'Hare acknowledged the donations received from Super Fresh.  It was suggested for next year that there be three separate areas instead of two set up.

 


New Business:

 

President O'Hare has set up an e-mail account, CarneyCIA @ aol.com, for anyone wishing to e-mail her regarding Association business.

 

It was decided not to participate in the Perry Hall Town Fair in July but to participate in the Parkville Fair on September 7 which benefits various organizations in the Parkville/Carney area.

 

President O'Hare announced there will be a community cleanup project October 17-19.  She proposed having an announcement board set up in the area for the Association's use.

It was also proposed  having the General Meeting in alternate months with the Board Meeting in between.

 

Vice President Shah announced the County Bureau of Solid Waste Management is selling compost bins for $25 on April 26, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Park and Ride in White Marsh and at Oregon Ridge.
