MEETING MINUTES

January 17, 2002

CARNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

Meeting called to order at  7:10 p.m. with  14  members present.

  Officers present were President Chip Trageser, Vice President Romi Shah, Secretary Marilyn Ryan, Recording Secretary Joanne Krause, and Sergeant at Arms Meg O'Hare.  Treasurer Mary Eck was absent.

Minutes of previous meeting read by Secretary Marilyn Ryan.  Motion to approve minutes was made by Pat Rooney and seconded by Pat Sollanek.  There being no discussion, motion approved.


Treasurer's Report:                      

 

Previous balance was $816.63

Deposits were $250.32

Expenses were $427.00

Current balance is $639.95

 


At this point in the meeting, representatives from MRA and SHA spoke about the Harford Road streetscape project.  Philip Humbertson, SHA, said there is only funding for the concept development at this point.  There is no design or construction funding at this time.

  JoAnn Trach Tongson, consultant from MRA, provided statistics on the number of cars per day traveling through Carney (34,000) at an average speed of 49 mph (which is 19 miles over the 30 mph speed limit from the beltway to Joppa Road).  She said there are five goals/elements to consider in developing this project, such as, pedestrian safety, slowing traffic, etc.

  John Meaney, landscape architect from MRA, spoke about the streetscape project done in Parkville giving ideas to be considered in the Carney area.

  There will be a task force meeting on this project at 7 p.m., February 5, at the VFW on Harford Road.  State Delegate Al Redmer made some comments and urged the group's participation in this project.

 


Committee Reports:

 

A.    Veterans Memorial:  Terry Sollanek said the grant has been received and he is to meet with the County School Facilities representative to discuss placement of the memorial.

  B.    Membership:  None

  C.    Zoning:  Marilyn Ryan reported that zoning for the Escalante property on Sixth Avenue is to revert back to residential.  Escalante has 30 days to appeal.

  D.   Fundraising:   Joyce Trageser has raffle tickets for the Eastern Shore weekend getaway.

 


Unfinished Business:

 

Amendments to by-laws are being worked on.  If anyone has suggestions, report to President Trageser by February 10.

  Joseph Boteler volunteered and was voted in as a new Board member.

 


New Business:

 

There will be an Easter Egg Hunt on March 23 and volunteers are needed.  Letters are being sent to area businesses for contributions.  The set up will be different from last year with separate areas for different age groups.

 


Closing Activity:

 

Philip Humbertson, SHA, donated his winnings of $32.00 to the CIA.

 


Announcements:

 

Next meeting is February 21, 2002.
