The Carney Improvement Association - continually dedicated to improving and preserving the Carney area - is endeavoring to rebuild a small memorial that honored those Carney members who served during WWII. In 1988, this monument, once located on Joppa Road, was demolished and the plaque disappeared. Recently, the monument’s bronze plaque was discovered and found to be in good condition. It is time for this honorable remembrance of our veterans to be erected once again. With assistance from the Maryland Military Monument Commission and the Baltimore County Office of Community Construction, the C.I.A. is arranging to refurbish the plaque and construct a new memorial on the grounds of the Carney Elementary School. Although the C.I.A. has been awarded a grant to offset the cost, more donations are needed.

The Carney Improvement Association, with the support of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Sons of the American Legion, is kicking off a fund drive to raise the necessary funds needed to complete the project. We are selling engraved bricks to be used as part of the walkway surrounding the plaque. For a $25.00 donation, a brick can be inscribed with a message or name to remember a loved one or a special occasion. Of course, any donation to this historic cause is greatly appreciated.
